VIDEO: See the passenger drone set to begin operation this year

The Dubai government has announced that it plans to start operating a passenger drone within the city from July this year.

Matt al-Tayer, the head of the city’s Roads and Transportation Agency (RTA) made the announcement that a drone that can carry people will begin “regular operations” in Dubai, at the World Government Summit in the city.

The RTA has been working with Chinese firm EHang and the company’s EHang 184, which was unveiled in January 2016, looks set to taxi passengers across the city.

The Ehang 184 can carry one passenger at speeds up to 100 miles per hour and can fly 31 miles on a single battery charge.

Within the drone there are no controls, the passenger simply keys in their desired destination and the rest is automated.
