A round-up of BIM and digital construction stories you might have missed in the past fortnight, including the impact on digitalisation of delays to data centre construction.

Data centre delays disrupt digitalisation

Digitalisation could be decelerated by data centre supply chain constraints, claims new research by Rider Levett Bucknall. The research surveyed 475 executives from data centre operators and contractors across the UK and Europe. A total of 70% of the respondents agreed that data centre supply chain shortages and disruptions will limit digitalisation in Europe in the next five years.

AI is the top priority

Investing in new technologies, such as AI, is the top priority for one in three (34%) of project-based firms this year. That’s according to new research from Deltek which also reveals almost a fifth (18%) of the 400 respondents (from the UK, Australia and New Zealand) feel investing in more IT infrastructure is the biggest growth opportunity over the next 12 months. And nearly half (43%) are planning to change their 2024 strategy by working for clients that are more AI-focused.

Eleco acquires Vertical Digital

Eleco has acquired custom software integration and development provider, Vertical Digital. According to Eleco, the acquisition will enhance its “capability to service and scale its customers by connecting systems and with technical consulting which will support their digital transformation journeys”.

Topcon integrates with Bentley

Topcon Positioning Systems has announced strategic agreements with both Bentley Systems and Worldsensing to integrate its GNSS (global navigation satellite system) technology into the companies’ software. Bentley has integrated this technology into its iTwin IoT monitoring solution.

Meanwhile, Worldsensing has integrated the Topcon AGM-1 GNSS receiver with its Thread X3 broadband product. The result is a new accurate positioning system to monitor geohazards, such as rock falls and landslides in pit mines, rail embankments and other ground structures.
