The future of offsite is construction is here, but not on Earth: to realise its plan for 2001-style space station/orbital city, Gateway Spaceport wants to industrialise the off-world construction of spaceports. In a video, Gateway Spaceport president John Blincow proposes a system that could build the space station in just one month.

New innovation group to harness young minds

A new cross-specialism innovation group will bring together construction’s brightest young minds to come up with ideas to tackle the sector’s biggest issues, Construction Management reports.

The Future Innovation Group is backed by the likes of Morgan Sindall, Wates, ISG, Pagabo, Pick Everard and Faithful + Gould. A steering group of placement students will lead the group. It is open to young people in any construction-related sector, from contractors to marketeers.

Kier tracks spend in communities

Kier has launched a new tool to track its spend in areas of social deprivation across the UK, according to Construction Management. The tool, known as Local Multiplier 3, has been developed by the New Economics Foundation. Kier said it would aid its ability to show and improve how it is supporting communities.
