BSI signs MoU with University of Nottingham Ningbo

The British Standards Institution (BSI) and the University of Nottingham Ningbo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into a strategic partnership to provide BIM training in China.

Under the terms of the memorandum, courses specific to BIM management and practice will by jointly provided by both BSI and the university in 2017.

The announcement follows several visits led by Llewellyn Tang, director of UNNC’s D-CiTi Lab at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, to London to conduct in-depth discussion with BSI on development of BIM standards globally and in China.

This is the second high-profile BIM MoU the University of Nottingham Ningbo has signed as it follows an agreement made with the CIOB last year. Under this MoU the organsiations will jointly develop CIOB certification training for the Chinese market.

Both MoUs demonstrate the UK’s position as a global leader in BIM standards, certification and training.

On the latest MoU Tang said: “Both parties have 100 years’ of experience in leading development of architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries.

“Based on the platform of D-Citi Lab, establishment of the partnership between us will definitely promote the international leading training on BIM-specific high-level management, and help the industry have an in-depth understanding of the global development of BIM standards as well as its value for the key stakeholders in the industry, promoting digital transformation in the construction industry.”

Michael Lam, managing director of BSI China, added: “BSI has high expectations for strategic cooperation between both parties. Especially in areas of training and certification related to the BIM programme, we hope that by fully leveraging strategic advantages from both sides, and by introducing the international best practices, we can collectively offer high-quality services to promote BIM to the construction industry in China.”
