Dr Anne Kemp, chair of the UK BIM Alliance, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for 2019 for her significant contribution to the UK’s programme to deliver a smart digital economy for the built environment.
Dr Kemp is a Fellow and technical director for digital engineering (DE) and BIM strategy and development at Atkins and member of the Management Advisory Board for the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB)
Professor Andy Neely, pro-vice chancellor for enterprise and business relations at the University of Cambridge and director of the Centre for Digital Built Britain, said: “This is well-deserved recognition of the outstanding contribution that Anne has made to the digitalisation of the built environment. CDBB is fortunate to work with a number of world-leading experts and leaders in their field and Anne Kemp is definitely among them. We send her our warmest congratulations.”
Named Geospatial Professional of the Year at the GEO Business 2019 awards last month (May 2019), Dr Kemp is acknowledged internationally for her experience and expertise in digital engineering and contribution to thought leadership, transforming the UK constriction and infrastructure industry.
Dr Kemp was made an inaugural Atkins Fellow in 2015 in recognition of her leadership in digital engineering, BIM and geospatial internationally. She is chair of the UK BIM Alliance and buildingSMART UKI, and convenor of international and UK standards for BIM (ISO19650 and the PAS 1192 series).
Dr Kemp is also convener for the strategic direction of digital transformation within the built environment for ISO, working closely with CDBB, and is part of CDBB’s DFTG. She was named an ICE Invisible Superhero – “Digital Dynamo” and was awarded the ICE President’s Award 2017.
She was chair for ICE’s State of the Nation: Digital Transformation report 2017, and of the Association of Geographic Information from 2014 to 2016.
She regularly presents at conferences, writing papers on managing information for better outcomes across the infrastructure industry – spanning DE, BIM and geospatial.
Based on her recent MSc research she has also established a reputation in thought leadership around people and collaborative working and the psychological implications of our merging virtual and physical worlds.
Currently senior advisor for the DE/BIM strategy at High Speed 2 (HS2) and Heathrow Airport, she served two years on the UK BIM Task Group as a delivery officer for Highways Agency and Environment Agency.
