Taking the spotlight in the latest instalment of My Digital Life is Tim Reeve, technical director at Winvic. He tells us about his desire to try Microsoft Mesh and the need for CGI to render faster.
What new built environment digital innovation you’ve seen recently really excites you?
The new Microsoft Mesh mixed-reality platform that enables shared experiences from anywhere on any device could open up a whole new world of collaborative digital design and in the future could be used on sites by operatives in a similar way to the VR headset we’re already developing with The University of the West of England, Bristol. It looks fantastic: I can’t wait to get my hands on a device.
What single thing would help accelerate construction’s digital adoption?
As augmented and virtual reality becomes increasingly affordable and readily available to construction staff, the industry will see a shift in how information is understood and shared.
What was the last app you downloaded and why?
The last app I downloaded on my phone was Photoshop Express as I wanted to edit some photos.
What’s the tech bane of your life?
Having to wait a long time for project CGIs to finish rendering. Sometimes a 10-second animation can take a few hours to render, so I’d love to see advancements in this area.
Mac or PC/iOS or Android?
PC for work, iOS for everything else.
Do you have any smart home features or other digital gadgets?
I have a Google Home assistant, which I mostly use to set reminders and answer any pressing questions I have!
