Two more companies have been awarded BIM certification through the BRE BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification scheme.
Architect HLM and Adept, a firm of civil and structural consulting engineers based in Leeds, now join only a handful of companies to have secured the certification.
The certificate ensures compliance with the government’s requirements for the Level 2 BIM mandate on public sector projects.
Nick Beecroft, director of HLM, said: “BIM is essential for the future development of the build environment. Achieving BIM allows us to extend our engagement with the public sector and be fully aligned to work in partnership with both existing and new clients.
“Through the HLM Academy, we will ensure that everyone involved in the design and delivery of our clients’ schemes is fully trained to use BIM and committed to demonstrating best value.”
Projects where the practice has deployed BIm include the Heart of the Campus for Sheffield Hallam University, pictured above.
At Adept, managing director Erol Erturan is also a BRE “BIM Accredited Professional” and the firms says it has used BIM since 2013 on all projects.
Recent projects include a £55m distribution centre for Next in Doncaster (pictured right), the £20m Staycity Hotel in Manchester, the £12m refurbishment of Leeds Kirkgate market, and on residential projects for retirement house builder McCarthy & Stone.
Erturan says: “We are now one of just a handful of firms that have achieved this top BIM accreditation which is a fantastic achievement – especially as the majority of small-to-medium-sized businesses are not at all prepared for the introduction of BIM Level 2 and face being frozen out of government contracts as a result.”

Sad to read Erturan’s quote (veiled message). Having a Certificate does NOT mean that individuals within a large organisation are collaborative, nor good designers using BIM. From personal experience in a long career, many are the opposite.
On the other hand, SME’s are more flexible, their staff are more stable and focused on client satisfaction and, believe it or not are perfectly suited to BIM working. To propagate the notion or assert that only big businesses can do BIM, or are ready for BIM Level 2, is not only incorrect, but it eliminates a very high proportion of professionals in every discipline.
