Awards announced

A new awards scheme to celebrate the achievements of SMEs adopting BIM has been exclusively revealed to BIM+.

The new BIM4SME Awards have been set up to “recognise the excellent BIM work that small and medium sized businesses are doing throughout the construction industry”, says Andrew Turner, vice chairman of the non-profit organisation set up to encourage SMEs to embrace BIM.

“The awards will provide a platform for SMEs to showcase what they are doing,” continues Turner, a partner at cost and project manager Henry Riley Consulting. “We hope that this will show off smaller companies’ work and encourage people that are not engaged with BIM to get involved, so they don’t get left behind.”

Supported by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the awards will be officially launched at the RICS BIM Conference on 12 February.

Contractors, sub-contractors and consultants interested in entering the awards will then have two months to submit their projects to a deadline in mid-April.

The shortlisted schemes will be listed online on the awards website and the winners announced in June.

The dedicated website, with entry details and more information on the awards, will be launched later this week.

Along with members of the BIM4SME executive team, the awards will be judged by “leading industry figures”.

The proposed categories for the awards are as follows:

  • Best Case Study of a BIM Project, showing key learning outcomes – Medium Enterprise (51-250 people)
  • Best Case Study of a BIM Project, showing key learning outcomes – Small or Micro Enterprise (1-50)
  • Best SME BIM Blog
  • Website with Best SME BIM content
  • Best SME Newcomer
  • Best SME Innovation
  • Award for the SME who undertook the best training to improve their supply chain
  • Best SME engagement and support programme

We hope that this will show off smaller companies’ work and encourage people that are not engaged with BIM to get involved, so they don’t get left behind.– Andrew Turner, vice chairman, BIM4SME
