Space Group’s bimstore.co.uk takes on the US market

UK BIM object website bimstore.co.uk is to launch next week in the US at the Revit Technologies Conference in Washington, taking on local competitors bimobject.com and modlar.com.

Bimstore.co.uk is part of the Space Group, which also owns BIM manager and consultant BIM Technologies, designer Space Architects, and website bimcrunch.com. It has also expanding into Australia, and the company says there are also plans to launch in other European countries.

To launch in the US, bimstore.co.uk has partnered with Read Thomas, a US-based consultancy which works with designers, builders, manufacturers and owners to implement new technologies and software.

Rob Charlton, director of bimstore.co.uk and chief executive of Space Group, said: “Developing bimstore into North America has always been in our plans. However, we wanted to wait until we found the right partner who had the same passion for digital construction as we do.

“We have no doubt we have found that partner in Read Thomas. We have known Phil and Adam for a number of years and are delighted to be working together.”

The company says that its decision to launch in North America was driven by the fact that many of bimstore’s existing customers were keen to push their products further afield, or already had international reach.

It says that companies such as Grohe, Kingspan and Dortech, which already have distribution networks in place in the US, were keen that their digital BIM objects should also be readily available to BIM specifiers and designers without having to sign up to multiple BIM library services.

Currently around 100 companies have their BIM objects on the site.

Bimstore is to sponsor the keynote speaker at the Revit Technologies Conference Building Content Summit being held in Washington on 22 July. The RTC event is the first to focus on BIM content for building projects.

Adam Thomas, chief operating officer and co-founder of Read Thomas, said: “One thing that we believe at Read Thomas is that you can have a great product or service but without the eco system to support the product or service it will not succeed.

“In bimstore’s case, it’s not just about creating content, it’s about the eco system of managing, delivery and analysing the content.”
