UK BIM Framework releases latest guidance

The UK BIM Framework – comprising BSI, the Centre for Digital Built Britain and the UK BIM Alliance – has released the fourth edition of Guidance Part 2: Process for Project Delivery to help practitioners in the UK to implement BIM in the UK according to the ISO 19650 series.

The new guidance has been developed for the UK BIM Framework with support from industry. It extends guidance into the areas of exchange information requirements, the level of information need, information delivery planning and open data and buildingSMART.

Co-editor of the revised Guidance Part 2, Sarah Davidson, said: “This fourth edition addresses key areas that are relevant to all project team members; it is intended to be helpful, practical and accessible to support the adoption of the ISO 19650 standards that are currently available. We are pleased to receive your feedback and we are already looking ahead to the next edition, so please keep it coming.”

The UK BIM Framework was launched by the BSI, the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), and the UK BIM Alliance in October 2019 to replace the term “BIM Level 2” as a framework for implementing best practice whole-life information management within the built environment.

Ant Burd, associate director, head of built Environment at BSI, said: “The UK continues to lead the way globally in developing information management process standards for BIM in the built environment, and the ISO 19650 standards, supported by this latest fourth edition of the Project Delivery guidance, form part of the strategy to both support UK practitioners in implementing BIM and share our experience and knowledge globally.”

The UK BIM Framework sets out the approach for implementing BIM in the UK using the international framework for managing information provided by the ISO 19650 series. It includes:

  • published standards;
  • the Guidance Framework;
  • supporting case studies, resources and tools.
