Tool hire boosted by e-commerce solution

City Hire, a London-based construction tool company, has become the first to launch a fully integrated e-commerce site for its customers to self-manage their tool deliveries and collections on site.

“We have developed an easy-to-use online system that is fully integrated to our operations to speed up delivery to site. The process seamlessly allows authorised site personnel to ‘hire’ and accounts teams to ‘approve’. It’s a win-win solution,” said Warren Burgess, managing director at City Hire.

All stock items are available to order with delivery promised within four hours within the M25.

Orders can be placed via a tablet, PC or phone, day or night, seven days a week.

Having asked his team to test the beta version of the website and app, Mike Hern, operations manager at fit-out business Fileturn, said: “City Hire have created a neat solution for online tool hire which is unlike anything we have seen in the market. It allows us to give responsibility for hiring at site level without losing visibility and purchasing control at the centre.”

Other features of City Hire’s e-commerce site include:

  • Notification alerts to let customers know when their tools will arrive on site;
  • Reminders when tools are due to come off-hire;
  • City Hire’s service promise to remove tools from site within two working days of being off-hired;
  • Full access to information on any items customers have on-hire which gives them a 360 degree view of their active account and purchase history.
