Construction manager launches tools track and trace system

A construction tools track and trace system designed by a former project manager is set to launch following angel investment.

Steve Roberts, as CEO of Sentry SL, has spent four years developing his Smart-Lead technology in response to frequent thefts of power tools experienced by his former colleagues and employees. Thefts of these tools amount to more than £35m in the UK each year and only around 5% of items are ever recovered.

Smart-Lead is an integrated tracking technology that can be retrofitted so that tools are easier to recover if stolen. It also prevents stolen equipment from being used, making it less attractive to thieves.

Roberts said: “I worked in construction for 40 years and I have seen many co-workers devastated by the loss of their equipment, especially power tools. Even if they are insured, people can lose weeks of work before they can afford to buy replacements, and then they’re hit by increased premiums.

“I decided there had to be an effective way to track stolen equipment and, in the longer-term, deter these thefts. It’s really rewarding to see the Smart-Lead idea coming to life now that we have secured this investment.”

The Smart-Lead is CE marked and BSI accreditation is underway. It will initially be available to pre-order online at a heavily discounted rate, ready for fitting at an approved workshop.

Following the angel investment, Roberts is planning to launch a crowd-funding initiative in the near future.

  1. Too many hard working members of the construction community have been affected by this most despicable of crimes. Most people in construction are honest and respectful of others who are trying to make their livings. I sincerely hope this scheme is successful.

  2. Our plan is to reduce this epidemic, protect livilihoods & start turning the tide on the misery caused by theft.

Pete, on behalf of the Sentry ‘Smart-Lead’ team thank you for your support.
